What should I expect during my first visit?
I will ask you to tell me about your physical and medical history, and we will discuss your goals for both the session and your ongoing treatment. You will have a private area to remove your clothes and get comfortable on a massage table, under a sheet. Your privacy and comfort are of utmost importance and will be protected at all times.
Do I have to lay on my stomach or back?
I will work according to your ability and comfort. Typical massage appointments include laying on your stomach for part of the session and then laying on your back, but modifications can easily be made to enhance your comfort, and bodywork can be done in any position. Bolsters and or pillows may be used to support your body in order to help you relax and maintain a comfortable position.
Is massage therapy right for me?
Do you have tired achy muscles? Have you had an injury or surgery that has left you feeling stiff and uncomfortable? Do you have stress?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, you could benefit from massage therapy.
Besides reducing stress and fatigue, massage imparts many other healing benefits. It reduces congestion and improves circulation, increasing oxygen and nutrients to muscle joints, organs and the brain. It calms the nerves and stimulates elimination of metabolic wastes, often speeding recovery from injuries and illness. Massage also reduces pain due to spasm, inflammation, and tissue damage. You not only feel better after a massage, you look better, with improved posture, skin tone and energy level.
Cautions:
There are a few medical conditions that are not compatible with massage: serious cardiac conditions, blood clots, skin disease, wounds, tumors, cancers, tuberculosis, fever, fractures and dislocations. For most of us, however, full-body massage is just what the doctor ordered. Enjoy, and improve your health!
